Certificates

In 1998 Velana gained quality certificate ISO 9001 from Bureau Veritas. It has to be renewed every two years and this presents a perpetual force for changes.

With strict standards it also directs us toward more efficient fulfillment of customers needs and wishes. One of certificate principles are constant product and services improvement.

Technology

It is a long way from the specific fabric idea to its serial product. As it is demanding voyage it is also a very interesting one. First, an idea has to be born in designers mind. Then a sketch is drawn on paper, transformed to computer and corrected to final version. Prepared sample is a reference for the production. Then hundreds and hundreds threads have to be set on place by hand warping. Next step is to knit or weave the prototype serie of specific fabric, which is afterwards closely checked. Any eventual imperfections are set right. After that the serial production can start.

Weaving department consists of 54 dobby and jacquard weaving machines from Sulzer and Somet machine producers. In knitting department there are 19 knitting machines and one broche machine, all from Karl Mayer.

But that is not the end of a story. Textile is rough and now finishing comes to place. What does it mean? Fabrics have to be washed, optically whitened, colored and eventually burned out. Through the whole finishing process curtain fabrics gain final outlook, touch and elegance – an appearance we are costumed with.

Finishing department consists of JET and HT coloring machines, printing machine, laser optocutter and crushing machine.

As a final stage Velana is offering ready made confectioning. With 30 sewing machines and quality workers almost any orders can be tailored to customers needs.

History

It all started near river Ljubljanica in 1948. In abandoned sugar warehouse, where our famous modernist poems and writers lived (Josip Murn, Dragotin Kette and Ivan Cankar), company Volnenka was born. A group of 15 enthusiasts assembled and repaired used knitting machines and started with production. After a long search for identity Volnenka settled as a curtain fabrics producer.

Later on company changed its name in Velana. It has become well known and respected brand name, first in Yugoslavia and with a time in other European markets, too. Export grew rapidly, especially after Slovenia became independent state in 1991.

So here we are today, playing a game with global competitors, pushing forward to be a flexible and innovative curtain manufacturer with value added solutions. As our slogan points out - we are " living with curtains ".
